The Portland Women’s Service Club is screening the movie, The Great Escaper starring Michael Caine and Glenda Jackson at the Portland Arts Centre at 2pm on Sunday 7 July .

In the summer of 2014, the 70th Anniversary of the D-Day Landings, octogenarian Bernie Jordan (Michael Caine) made global headlines when he  staged a “great escape” from his care home to join fellow war veterans on a beach in Normandy, commemorating their fallen comrades. This is a true story that captured the imagination of the world — Bernie seemed to embody the defiant, “can-do” spirit of a generation that was fast disappearing. But of course, it wasn’t the whole story. This is definitely one for the fellas too.

All tickets $12. Available at Intimate Apparell, 66 Percy St. (correct change appreciated). We hope to see you there.
Bring some cash for the raffle and cake stall.

Well we started winter with a “big chill”.  Wow, what a couple of wild days.
Over the weekend I was the ever supportive Mother and Nana, enduring the outdoor cold, a total of 8 hrs all up, with my Daughter and Grandchildren as they enjoyed Aus Kick, Netball and Netball umpiring and Soccer.
Yep, that is what I looked like!!!  I hope my family heard my cheers thru the face shield and my clapping thru the gloves.  Brrrrrrrr……

Enjoy your week

Regards….Helen
